My second maternity leave wasn't just about bonding with my baby—it became a journey to rediscover myself.
Listen to the whole episode here.
My second maternity leave was different. I was determined to prioritize myself and rediscover who I was beyond motherhood and my career. I dedicated myself to self-care practices like acupuncture and pelvic floor physiotherapy, and had fun doing things with my baby, like baby-and-me barre classes. It felt incredible to prioritize my well-being again.
This was also a time for exploration. I tried new things like tennis and even enrolled in an interior design certification program. It was all about reigniting my passions and figuring out what truly interested me.
During this period of self-discovery, I found myself drawn to human design. Learning that I'm a Projector, with naturally fluctuating energy levels, was incredibly validating. It gave me the freedom to structure my life in a way that honored my unique energy patterns.
As my maternity leave neared its end, I began journaling more regularly, which helped me reflect and process my thoughts. Big questions started to emerge: What did I want my future to look like? What was my purpose? How could I align my work with my natural gifts and talents?
I joined a group mentorship program called Next Level Success to help me answer these questions. The program not only expanded my thinking but also connected me with a community of like-minded individuals, some of whom were entrepreneurs. This exposure to different ways of life was truly eye-opening.
Then, unexpectedly, the funding for my position (that I was supposed to return to in one month) was cut. While this was initially concerning, I also felt this sense of relief. It was a powerful realization, that maybe I wasn't meant to return to that job or career path.
By the end of the Next Level Success program, I was fully committed to making a change. I had raised my standards for my work and my life, refusing to settle for feeling underappreciated or stuck in old patterns. My desire for change was so strong, and I wrote in my journal "I WANT CHANGE".
Stay tuned as I reveal the surprising steps I took to embrace entrepreneurship—and how they changed everything.
With love,
Emily
