EMILY LYNN BISHOP
MY STORY
Before motherhood, I was an overachieving, perfectionist, people pleaser, grade A student. This way of being got me a PhD in Biomedical Engineering and a conventionally accepted, lucrative research career. My work on the biomechanics of knee osteoarthritis was awarded and recognized internationally. By all standards, I had achieved career success in my early 30’s.

Everything changed when I became a mom. After an employment contract was pulled out from under me and I had to fight for my job after maternity leave, I realized that the stable and secure job that I had worked so hard for, wasn’t actually stable and secure at all. The era of the pension-filled, 40 year stable career that my parents came from, was over. I recognized that I was handing over my time, freedom, security and power to build someone else’s dream. I saw the glass ceiling of my career trajectory and knew that to get there, I would need to sacrifice the work-life balance that I, and my family, desperately needed. I tolerated working on someone else’s schedule before kids, but after kids, it became obvious that time autonomy was non-negotiable for me. I realized that my work had to be meaningful, fulfilling and impactful to justify paying someone else to care for my children while I was at work. But, I refused to choose between my career and motherhood, and became devoted to making them fit in a way that worked for me and my family life.

I left my research career behind to start a business empowering working moms to redefine success and create deeply fulfilling careers that work for them and their family life. I’ve chosen the path of entrepreneurship to reclaim my time, energy and security, and to create the work-life balance and lifestyle that I desire. Even though it's a huge learning curve to build a business, there’s a greater sense of security through self-trust. Now, I’m breaking through the upper limit of what I thought was possible, while doing something that feels meaningful, purposeful and impactful.
And that’s why today, I’m devoted to helping other ambitious, high-achieving working moms experience success in their career and life, that feels better than they could have ever imagined, through my guidance.
